My name is Ashton Hayley Robertson and I am a clinical psychologist. I completed my undergraduate degree at Rhodes University. I continued my Psychology Honours degree at Rhodes University and graduated cum laude. I completed my Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology and graduated cum laude at the University of Johannesburg. I have an additional qualification in Equine-assisted Psychotherapy, cum laude.
I am registered with the following boards:
The Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA)
The Board of Healthcare Funders (BHF)
The Golden Key International Honour Society
My services aim to provide the client with a safe and trusting space in order to enable self-exploration, self-understanding and self-growth and to relieve psychological distress. Additionally I can assist with the diagnosis of mental disorders and provide the client with an appropriate referral to trusted psychiatrists. In the case of a confirmed diagnosis, the optimal treatment plan is for the psychologist and psychiatrist to work hand-in-hand for the benefit of the client.
I am trained to work from an integrative perspective. I therefore tailor each session to my client’s presenting problem and needs. I do believe that the therapeutic relationship enables meaningful change and I place an emphasis on a Rogerian client-centred approach. I also favour an Interactional Pattern Analysis approach. This enables one to understand ineffective ways of interacting that can be changed and optimised to achieve positive ways of relating with the self and as a consequence, with others. By creating a beneficial change in one’s behaviour and utilising more effective communication, this in turn will enable more gratifying and supportive relationships. I also see value in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy techniques, as well as Solution Focused Therapy and hypnotherapy.
My private practice is based at 340 On Main Health and Wellness Centre, 340 Main Road, Bryanston, Sandton.
Equine-assisted psychotherapy sessions take place on a plot in Chartwell at 259 Spencer Avenue, Chartwell North Estates. It is a few minutes down the road from the Broadacres Shopping centre.
Session Information:
Sessions can be booked online on my website.
Booking a session online allows you access to my schedule and the upcoming sessions that I have available. You can compare that to your own schedule and book a mutually convenient time.
Go to: www.therapywithashton.co.za
on the first website page there is a button that says "book a session". You can click on that, or alternatively, go to my "contact me" page and scroll down to where it says "online bookings" and click on "book a session".
From there it is an easy process to book.
You will be directed to a new page that shows my information.
1) Where it says "reason for the appointment", use the drop arrow to select what you are booking for (50 minutes for a single session or 100 minutes for a double session, medical aid versus private cash patient etc). You then click next.
2) A calandar will then be displayed. It will show as blank white if that day is fully booked. If a date has available sessions, it will show in pink and how many sessions are available. You can click on that and it will show you which times are available on that date.
3) If you find a session slot that works for both of us then you can click on it and click "save". Then click next.
4) Please fill in the requested information. If you have a specific note about the session that you would like me to know, you can fill that in where it says "your note". Then click next.
5) Check that the booking information is correct and click "confirm".
I will then receive your booking request and confirm the session/s. You will then receive a confirmation email and calandar invite. Please make sure you diarise these appointments when you receive your confirmation. If you have not received any emails within 24 hours, please check your spam box and if there is still nothing, please contact me directly.
Individual sessions as well as couples sessions are 50 minutes long.
Double sessions are available upon request at 100 minutes.
Once weekly sessions are recommended, but more frequent sessions, or twice monthly sessions are also available upon request.
Sessions are tailored to each individual. Treatment duration varies depending upon the individual, their therapeutic needs and goals and the severity and intricacy of the presenting problem. I prefer to work at a pace that is comfortable for my clients. Psychotherapy sessions commonly range from 5 to 15 sessions per client.
