For many of us, life is a roller coaster. Joy and deep fulfilment are interspersed with profound sadness, self-doubt, irrational fear or even a sense of futility. Frequently, we can pinpoint the source of our unhappiness – the death of a loved one, a traumatic breakup or a financial crisis, for example – but still struggle to cope. Often, though, we don’t even understand why we feel miserable. We simply seem unable to achieve what we want or relate to others openly and authentically.
While our close friends can be crucial at these times, their support can only go so far. Therapy can help you make sense of misfortune, enabling you to use it to grow and build resilience rather than be broken by it. Equally, therapy can help you identify ways in which behaviours, thoughts and beliefs are preventing you from living a full, satisfying life – a life in which you connect meaningfully with others.
Ultimately, my goal as a therapist is to help you accept yourself for whom you are, build your confidence and master your responses to life’s challenges, so that you are able to be the best person you can be.
