Much like therapy, my journey to this path has taken many twists and turns, starting out in the field of special needs, community mental health, student support and child and adolescent mental health. However, the family unit has always been of special interest and the calling that has drawn me to this work. I provide individual therapy to children, adolescents and parents, as well as therapy with parents and young children together with a focus on supporting my clients and their families to gain mastery over past challenges, learn to manage their current experiences with more success and direct themselves towards a more positive future. In my work, I am mainly guided by a humanistic approach to the therapeutic process:
This form of therapy takes a holistic approach to then person and family, aiming to encourage greater self-exploration and self-understanding. Using this approach, the therapy is geared towards increasing one's feeling of empowerment, free will, and creativity, all with the goal of performing at one's own human potential.
In doing so, my approach is to allow the client (adult or child) to lead the therapy at their own pace. I firmly believe that all individuals strive for growth and can achieve growth when in the best possible environment. Humans are remarkably resilient and will always seek out opportunities for growth, which can be amplified by a supportive space and the opportunity to truly express oneself without judgment.
